Book Review : Jobless Clueless Reckless by Revathi Suresh

Jobless Clueless Reckless  is a young-adult fiction penned by Revathi Suresh and brought it out as her debut novel. The novel has intriguing outset that it hooked me with its very first page and of course with its catching title, which states the current situation of a person known to me.
When I read the title, there were the warning bells ringing in my mind about the book and thought about the book if it would have been related to some IIT, IIM Oor MBA.
In one of her blogs Revathi has stated, “I figured I didn’t have the magic formula. I didn’t have an IT background. Nor had I ever been part of any other kind of set up that allowed me to lean heavily on my job or my life for inspiration. Depressing. Life sucked because it was good.”

The novel deals with the teenage issues, the story will take you to your teenage time with the occurrence of the instances which seem to be as unreasonable and things go on changing at a rapid pace. It happens with everyone.
The novel does not carry any storyline and is not even started with definite beginning or ending. Revathi has even said, “There’s no summing it up and no synopsising it.” The author has well written about this teenage phase that every one of us goes through and thus enables us to see and feel it through the eyes of Kavya.
This female protagonist adorable, humorous, tongue-tied, amusing, smart and silly; and she grabs our interest in her life with her day to day routines and makes us to hear what she has to speak share with us.
The novel is simple and there isn’t much to speak about its language and will take you to your teenage days. A clear pick from the book is that it has the word dude in its every third line along with many more words that are teenage picks.
The book turned out to be a sincere, open, sensible and humorous. The author has stirred the real life issues faced by teenagers such as smoking, teenage pregnancy, drugs, drinking, body issues, peer pressure and puberty issues without getting preachy. The book is overall an enjoyable read, an excellent attempt by Revathi Suresh.
