At last, the quest to find the winner of the Twenty 20 series ends with the final match of the tournament as Sri Lanka and India, the familiar foes as they had been playing against each other in the 50-over 2011World Cup Final and again have marked their presence as these two qualifiers of the T 20 semi-finals have played against each other at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka, Bangladesh on Sunday. Despite of the fact that India is the only up beaten side in the tournament, Sri Lanka had been a step back by losing against England. There was a statement declared for the Indian team, that if India would have won the Twenty 20 world cup, it would have the privilege to hold all three major limited over titles, having won the 50-over 2011 World Cup and the Champions Trophy last year.
Sri Lanka after losing the major title matches, including the 50-over World Cup finals in 2007 and 2011 and also ended up as runners-up in the World T20 2012 and lost to the West Indies also in the 2009 edition they were defeated by Pakistan. For the Indian Cricket team also, it was after long-five-years when they won the inaugural tournament in 2007and now was the time when they were geared up in the rat race of winning the shortest format of the game, but then eventually it was knocked out by Sri Lanka after winning all the matches and even beating South Africa.
With the appearance of Ravichandran Ashwin and Amit Mishra in form have bagged 10 and nine wickets each, juxtaposed with some solid batting from the top order, especially the players, including Virat Kohli with 241 and Rohit Sharma with171 runs have definitely turned the fortunes of India around.
In the match the decision of Dhoni to drop Shikhar Dhawan and play Ajinkya Rahane proved right in the semi finals which led the team to make up for the finals, but then in the finals the ball turned to be in the team of Sri Lanka as Yuvarj who once was the man of the series in the inaugural tournament of this shortest tournament, turned the game as he made just 10 runs in 22 balls and took the Indian team towards the losing point.
However, it was belief of the commentators that this time Sri Lanka should win as in the previous matches and the country made up to the finals and have been ended up as runner up and also this shortest format of the game was the last series of Jaya Wardhane, Tilak Ratne and Kumar Sangakar.
Sunday was the day for Sri Lankans! Hats off to the players who, after ending up as runner-ups in the previous matches of major titles, this time finally made it.
